Baseball, Blue Jeans, Struggling Moms, and Imaginary Friends is a story of the underdog struggles of Peter Marshall and his mom, Vicki. The story involves inspirational healing, unusual relationships between Peter and his imaginary friends," and hilarious interactions on and off the ball field.
Young Peter Marshall would sit for hours in a majestic oak tree outside right field and dream of getting hits and running bases as the hero. He faced insurmountable hurdles, though. He was passed over by the coaches, unwelcomed by teammates, the butt of opponent jokes, target of a powerful villain, and no one to help. His mom couldn’t help him as she struggled with widowhood, providing for her children, and saving the family home while trying to get her foot on the professional ladder. It’s Peter alone, except for imaginary friends.
The setting is in Tallahassee, Florida, in the middle of the historical area where Hernando de Soto and his men camped over winter in 1539 and celebrated the first Christmas in what would become the United States. The area has a rich history of the Apalachee Indians, Spanish and French occupation, slavery, and the Civil War. The landscape is hilly, with many streams, lakes and majestic Live Oak trees with Spanish moss hanging nostalgically from each limb. Lots of birds and wild animals live in the surrounding woods. The Florida State Capitol is six blocks away, and the area is steeped in government history. The ball field sits close to the site of the mansion and stables of William Duval, who was appointed by President James Monroe to be the first Territorial Governor of Florida.

AWESOME!! HEART WARMING AND ENJOYABLE! I found this story about life, love and loss. Felt real. Author captures essence of life and relationships of the characters. Terrific story. This would be a fantastic movie. I honestly enjoyed every page, and don't think I will ever look at an owl or a fox in quite the same way again. Thank you for sharing. . . . this is a reading pleasure. Dian Strunk, Burlington, WI
Enjoyed reading this book. Reminds me of how simple and good life can be even when times are hard and the struggles of life can weigh you down. Love, spirit and hope will always get us through.
As a parent of 3 boys that are into sports and have great imaginations, this book hit home. It was very hard to put it down. Now, I cant wait to let my boys read it. If you have ever had the experience of watching your children from the stands, you will enjoy this book even more. Great read for anyone with kids.
Great story. Brought back fond memories of playing sports as a youngster. You have to admire the courage and steadfastness of Peter to hold onto his beliefs and convictions despite the taunts and disbelief of others
This is a touching story that captures the imagination and the heart as young Peter struggles to fit in to a world he's never known - being a member of a baseball team. The author has a very good take on the games and the interactions between the players, the opposing teams and the parents at the games. There are laugh out loud and heart tugging moments, some mean youths and adults, wise (and funny) imaginary friends and, of course, something to cheer about for both Peter and his mother. Believable characters nicely done!
I have read a lot of books, but this one had my attention from the get-go! Not only was this book funny -- creating out-loud laughing -- but also some tearful heart felt emotions. It had exciting moments as well as take-your-breath-away moments of anticipation, followed by cheering! Totally believable imaginary characters and realistic life experiences. Another plus is actually having the opportunity to learn more about baseball and some Tallahassee, FL history. I will be re-reading this book and passing my recommendation on to ALL my reading friends. I hope this author, Clifton Savoy, will continue writing excellent books like this....Kudos to you, Mr. Savoy!
